You spent time making the video. You posted it. And then it sat there, stuck at a couple hundred views, while some random account’s video about nothing hit a million. If your business videos are getting no views, it’s frustrating. But it’s rarely a mystery.
I’ve seen this pattern across a lot of accounts, including my own. The cause is almost always one of a handful of fixable problems. Here’s my honest diagnosis, and the order I’d fix them in.
Why Your Videos Are Getting No Views
The First Three Seconds Don’t Give Anyone a Reason to Stay
This is the big one. Platforms show your video to a small group first. If those people scroll past in the first couple of seconds, the platform stops showing it to anyone else. So an opening line like "Hey everyone, welcome back" can sink a video before it starts.
The Topic Is About You, Not Them
"We just got new equipment" is interesting to you. Your viewer is asking, "so what?" The videos that travel are about the viewer’s problem, question, or mistake, not your company news.
You’re Posting Inconsistently
Posting five videos one week and nothing for a month confuses both the platform and your audience. Steady, predictable posting gives each video a better shot.
The Video Isn’t Built for the Platform
A horizontal video with no captions, posted to Reels, is fighting uphill. Short-form platforms want vertical video, captions that are easy to read with the sound off, and a fast pace.
It’s Too Slow to Get to the Point
If you spend 20 seconds setting up the answer, most people are gone before it arrives. Lead with the answer, then explain it.
What to Fix First When Videos Are Getting No Views
If you only fix one thing, fix the hook. It has the biggest impact by far. Rewrite the first line of your next ten videos so it immediately says why the viewer should care. Use a problem, a strong opinion, or a surprising fact.
After that, work on making every topic about the viewer. Then lock in a posting schedule you can actually keep. Those three changes alone usually move the needle more than any fancy editing ever will.
Do Views Even Matter?
Here’s where I’ll push back on myself a little. Views matter because nobody can hire you from a video they never saw. But views from the wrong people are worth nothing.
A local business doesn’t need a million views. It needs the right few hundred people in its area to see it again and again. So if your views are low but the right people are watching and reaching out, you’re doing better than the numbers suggest.
Quick Checks So Your Videos Stop Getting No Views
- Does the first sentence say why the viewer should care?
- Is the topic about their problem, not your news?
- Is it vertical with captions that are easy to read?
- Do you get to the point in the first five seconds?
- Does it end with a clear next step?
- Is it part of a regular posting schedule?
Why Batching Helps With Views
When you record many videos in one session, you can try different hooks and topics and see what works. One video that flops tells you very little. Twenty videos give you real patterns. That’s one reason I’m such a believer in recording in batches. You can see how sessions work on our Batch Sessions page.
FAQ: Videos Getting No Views
How many views is normal for a small business video?
It varies a lot by platform, account size, and topic. Instead of comparing to other accounts, compare your videos to each other and look for the ones that did better than your usual.
Should I delete videos getting no views?
Usually not. Old videos can still pick up views over time, especially on YouTube. Learn from them instead.
Will paying for ads fix low views?
Ads can get more eyes on a video, but they won’t fix a weak hook or an off-target topic. Fix the content first, then decide whether ads make sense.
