Every business owner wants to know the best social media platform for a local business. The honest answer is that there isn’t one. There’s only the best one for your customers, your time, and your goals.

I post on just about every platform for my own business, and the results are not what you’d guess. So instead of generic advice, here’s what each platform tends to do well, what I’ve seen in my own numbers, and how to choose.

Finding the Best Social Media Platform for a Local Business

Start with one question: where do your customers already spend time? Ask a few of them. Their answers matter far more than any trend report.

Then think about what you want each platform to do. Some are great for reach. Others are better for trust or search. You don’t need all of them. Two or three you can keep up with will beat five you post to once a month.

Which Is the Best Social Media Platform for a Local Business? Platform by Platform

Facebook

Still one of the strongest platforms for reaching a broad local audience, especially people over 35. In my experience, sharing content from your personal profile often gets more engagement than posting only to a business page.

Instagram

Great for visual businesses and for short videos through Reels. Expect a lot of messages from people selling you things, but also real local discovery when your content is consistent.

TikTok

Huge reach, especially with younger audiences. It can put you in front of a lot of people quickly. Just know that a lot of that attention may come from outside your area or outside your budget range.

YouTube

This one surprised me most. It’s where I have the fewest followers, yet it’s produced some of my best deals. People search YouTube with intent, so longer videos that answer real questions can bring in serious buyers.

LinkedIn

Valuable if you sell to other businesses and your audience is active there. For my own business, it has been the weakest for leads, so I’d only prioritize it if your customers truly live on it.

The Best Social Media Platform for a Local Business Is the One You’ll Keep Using

Here’s my opinion: consistency beats platform choice. A business that posts three times a week on two platforms for a full year will beat a business that jumps on every new platform for a month.

Pick your platforms, commit to a rhythm, and give it at least six months before you judge it.

How to Split Your Time

  • Make vertical short videos once, then post them to Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and Facebook.
  • Put longer videos on YouTube, where they keep working for years.
  • Spend your engagement time where your actual customers comment and message.
  • Track where leads come from, and shift your effort toward what works.

Recording in batches makes this much easier, because one session can feed every platform for weeks. Our Monthly Plans handle the posting across platforms for you.

Signs It’s Not the Best Social Media Platform for Your Local Business

  • Months of consistent posting with no conversations or inquiries.
  • The people engaging are nowhere near your area.
  • Most of your messages are from people selling to you.
  • You dread posting there and keep skipping it.

If a platform checks several of these boxes, it’s okay to pull back and put that energy somewhere better.

FAQ: Best Social Media Platform for a Local Business

No. Two or three platforms done consistently will do more for you than five done poorly.

Is Facebook still worth it for local businesses?

For many local businesses, yes. It still reaches a broad local audience, especially through personal profiles and community groups.
