I’ve now filmed more than 15,000 videos with over 100 businesses across Windsor-Essex. That’s a lot of hours behind a camera, a lot of nervous first takes, and a lot of lessons about what actually works in local business video and what quietly flops.

These are the biggest ones. Some of them I learned from clients. Plenty I learned from my own mistakes.

What 15,000 Videos Taught Me About Local Business Video

1. Nobody Is Natural on Camera at First

Almost everyone is stiff for the first few minutes. Around the fifteen-minute mark, something shifts. Shoulders drop, energy comes up, and people start sounding like themselves. That’s why I believe in recording in batches. You only get to the good stuff by staying in the chair.

2. The First Three Seconds Decide Everything

A great video with a weak opening line still loses. If the first sentence doesn’t give people a reason to stay, they’re gone. Hooks are the single biggest thing I’ve worked on in my own content.

3. Opinions Beat Tips

Tips get views. Opinions get comments, messages, and conversations. The videos that brought in real business were almost always the ones where someone said what they actually believed.

4. Posting Matters More Than Production

I’ve seen beautiful videos sit unused in folders, and decent ones bring in customers because they actually went out, week after week. A finished video that never gets posted is worth nothing.

5. Many People Watch Quietly

Locals regularly tell me they see my videos all the time, even though they’ve never liked or commented on one. Engagement numbers tell only part of the story.

6. Trust Takes Months, Not Weeks

Most people need to see you many times before they reach out. The businesses that win in local business video are the ones that stick with it long enough for that to happen.

7. The Platform With the Fewest Followers Can Bring the Best Deals

YouTube is where I have the smallest audience, and it’s produced some of my best deals. People search there with intent. Never judge a platform on follower count alone.

8. How People Find Businesses Is Changing

More of my leads now say they found us by asking an AI assistant. Clear websites, consistent information, and helpful content matter more than ever.

9. Being Clear About Price Saves Everyone Time

Publishing prices changed the quality of my calls. People who reach out already know what they’re walking into.

What Flops in Local Business Video

  • Videos that open with a name and a company introduction.
  • Content that’s all about the business and nothing about the customer.
  • Posting in bursts and then going quiet.
  • Copying trends that have nothing to do with the business.
  • Waiting until everything is perfect before posting anything.

What I’d Tell Anyone Starting Local Business Video Today

Start with the questions your customers ask you every week. Record a batch of answers in one sitting. Open each one with why the viewer should care. Post three times a week, every week, for at least six months. Share at least one honest opinion a week. Then pay attention to who mentions your videos when they reach out.

That’s it. No tricks, no hacks. Just showing up consistently as yourself, in front of the people who matter. If you’d rather hand it off, our Monthly Plans are built around exactly that.

What Hasn’t Changed in Local Business Video

Platforms change. Trends come and go. But the core of local business video has stayed the same the whole time: people want to buy from people they know, like, and trust. Video is just the fastest way to let them get to know you before you ever meet.

FAQ: Local Business Video

What’s the most important thing for local business video?

Consistency. A steady stream of helpful, honest videos beats any single great video.

How many videos does a local business need?

Enough to post a few times a week, every week. That usually means recording in batches of 20 or more.

Is it too late to start?

Not at all. Most local businesses still aren’t posting consistently, which means there’s plenty of room to stand out.
